Cardiff airport to commence new flights to Croatia in 2011

Cardiff Airport has revealed that, although it has suffered some difficult times, it is commencing new flights to Croatia in 2011. One of its major future developments, the flights to Dubrovnik will offer those in the area fantastic new travel options this year.

With many airports affected in 2010 by poor weather both at the start and end of the year, in addition to volcanic ash clearing skies for many days, Cardiff saw a significant fall in the number of passengers gracing the airport. With 200,000 less people making use of services from the airport its future looked less than certain. However, with a portfolio of new routes being implemented for 2011, staff at Cardiff airport remain positive.

Speaking of the problems during 2010 the head of commercial operations and air services at Cardiff, Spencer Birns, confirmed that the economic downtown and volcanic ash had affected traffic. However, "2011 promises to be a more exciting year for us, with new routes including Funchal, Dubrovnik, Naples and Verona available in the summer," he added.

With the start of the year often being a time when people start to plan their holidays for the summer, taking advantage of these new routes could be ideal for those living in the region. Offering destinations to which many may not have travelled before, tourists will be able to access services that are within touching distance. As a result, Cardiff's appeal is likely to grow over the coming months.
