Bristol airport managed to increase passenger numbers in 2010

It has been revealed that, along with Manchester airport, Bristol airport increased passenger numbers in 2010 whilst many other operators actually saw fewer passengers using their services. Proving to customers that its services are strong and remain in operation even in difficult circumstances, the news is a positive message for all those living in the area with passenger figures likely to increase further still as a result.

Severe snow last winter followed by the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano caused dramatic problems for many airports. However, Lulsgate Terminal saw 5.7 million travellers pass through last year, an impressive figure when average numbers across the country actually fell by 3.5 per cent.  With estimates that figures would have been 150,000 higher if problems hadn't been seen, Bristol has firmly proved its reliability.

Talking of the measures they'd taken to ensure that passengers could continue to travel, spokesman for the airport, James Gore, explained "We were able to prepare well for the snow and therefore we saw less of an impact than some other airports around the UK. But we also managed to retain and grow some of our key scheduled services through the year. Brussels Airlines, for example, operated three flights a day to Brussels from Bristol rather than the two that they'd operated in previous years." Speaking of the importance of the figures for the area Mr Gore added that having a strong airport would improve the stability and future investment of the area and local economy no end. Meanwhile, with the additional news that easyJet, a major airline at the port, is to recruit 65 new staff members for the airport, Bristol looks set to enjoy a strong 2011.
