Southampton Wins Travel Reader Award
Southampton Airport Voted The Travel Reader Award
Travellers who have made use of the services of Southampton airport have rewarded it with the title of best airport in the country. Readers of Wanderlust travel magazine voted for a range of ports, with Southampton receiving the most votes for its fantastic customer satisfaction.
Speaking of the title, Southampton airport's manager director, Dave Lees, explained that much of its customer satisfaction was due to the diligent work of its hard working staff. "We have over 1,200 people here across 30 different companies and it really feels like a community. We have fantastic people here and I'm really proud," he said, adding that it had been in the December snow that the teams had really pulled together to ensure that travellers could continue to catch all the flights that they needed to. He also expressed that the airports small size benefited passengers, revealing "Getting to their cars is quicker and easier and we have excellent transport links."
Southampton airport employs many teams of people for vital yet unseen jobs, such as the runway staff who strive to scare birds away. After New York's Hudson River plane crash due to a flock of geese this job has been highlighted as vital. Meanwhile, airport ambassadors are on hand to help passengers whether it's soothing nerves or checking weather conditions at visitor's destinations.
Southampton remains a strong airport, with 1.7m passengers currently passing through per year and figures estimating that this will rise to 3.05 million by 2015. So with flights to destinations including Rome, Vienna, and Copenhagen, the benefit of using a regional airport is a very attractive option for many.
