2011 Holiday Growth Set For Philadelphia

It has been revealed that the city of Philadelphia noted strong growth in its hotel sector in 2010, intimating that tourism will be booming in 2011. With many individuals looking for new cities to explore, and the Pennsylvanian metropolis only 90 miles from New York City, Philadelphia is the ideal destination for those looking for an American east coast alternative.

Revealing figures for the city has shown that Philadelphia was host to approximately four million hotel stays in 2010, a rise from 3.74 million in 2009. With a newly developed convention centre opening in only weeks, and hotels continuing to offer great offers, the city could see increased growth for travellers looking for an alternative to expensive New York.

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation's head, Meryl Levitz, explained that leisure and tourism were continuing to grow impressively, showing that the city had great appeal to guests. "For the 7th straight year Saturday night was the busiest night of the week with downtown occupancy at 80 per cent," she explained, adding "This is a strong indicator that leisure is doing very well in Philadelphia but we know that people come every day of the week."

Travel to America is very popular with British travellers wanting to experience a slice of U.S life. Whilst New York City in particular remains a hot location, it can prove very expensive. But with a range of competitive flights from companies including U.S Airways, KLM, and Air Canada, staying instead in the thriving city of Philadelphia is an interesting and rewarding alternative.
