London Luton set to see Passenger Numbers Rise in 2011

Latest figures have shown that Luton airport has noted rising passenger figures this year. Welcome news to officials and passengers, January saw an increase of 9.4 per cent traffic when compared against January 2010, giving both travellers and airlines greater confidence in the airport.

Whilst passenger numbers at many airports have fallen due to bad weather and operational problems, Luton airport revealed that its traffic had increased by 50,000 people this January when compared to last. Served by a range of popular carriers including Monarch, easyJet, and Flybe, Luton has 95 current routes, offering travellers a great range of both domestic and international flights. Well placed for travel to London, the Midlands and the south east, services also fly to Pisa, Marrakech, and Paris amongst others, allowing passengers a great range of options to take advantage of.

Speaking of the upsurge of traffic, managing director of Luton, Glyn Jones, said "Travellers are choosing London Luton for the variety of destinations offered at competitive prices and our excellent transport links to London, the south-east and the Midlands. The hard work and planning of London Luton airport operational teams to keep the airport open during the recent freezing weather also helped minimise any disruption."

With almost nine million passengers passing through the airport last year, figures are set to increase significantly if they follow the pattern noted at the beginning of 2011. And for consumers this means better facilities, stronger operations, and more services in the future.
