East Midlands Airport Gains Environmentally Green Hotel
New Environmentally Green Hotel set to Open at East Midlands Airport
East Midlands airport is to gain a new hotel which will offer the ideal accommodation for those flying in and out of the airport. In addition to the new 216 roomed hotel providing a comfortable stay, the building will also utilise several environmentally sound forms of technology to help keep its carbon footprint low.
Whilst many travellers continue to want to fly around the world, being environmentally sound is a growing issue. Bearing this in mind, East Midland Airport's new hotel by Radisson Blu has been assessed as excellent by the BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) who give awards for buildings which offer sustainability and good environmental performance. Porous paving is used in their car park for example, whilst harvesting rainwater will be used for toilets and maintaining landscaping.
Currently under developed the £22m hotel will open this summer and provide five stories of rooms and services including a health and leisure suite. To officially mark the development a beam signing ceremony was held, highlighting the use of timber materials to reference the National Forest located nearby. Other references to local landmarks will include seamless cladding of aluminium similar to that of planes and an aviation inspired roof.
Such a huge development will be very influential on those travelling to and from East Midlands Airport. Whilst offering a green and comfortable place to sleep, it will also help to develop the airport as an international hub for air travel.
