Benidorm Sees Increased Tourism Following TV Programme
Comedy Series Benidorm has Significantly Increased Tourism on the Alicante Based Resort
It has long been established that popular television series and films can have a dramatic effect on tourism to the places that they've been filmed in. The Lord of the Rings trilogy definitely put New Zealand back on the holiday hotspot list, whilst Baz Lurhmann's 'Australia' has added to Down Under's popular appeal. And now it has been revealed that the comedy series Benidorm has significantly increased the popularity of this Spanish resort.
Previous surveys have shown that up to a fifth of British holidaymakers have been inspired to visit a location because of a film or television series. Benidorm, the ITV comedy which uses stereotypes of Spanish resort goers, has resulted in a surge of interest in British travellers wanting to visit the location. Searches for travel to the Alicante based resort can increase by up to 159 per cent after Friday night airings of the show, indicating that the location is set for a boom in tourism numbers.
Located on the Costa Blanca, Benidorm is the largest resort in Europe, and as such caters to the masses. Three miles of beautiful beach are there waiting to be enjoyed, whilst restaurants, gift shops and late night entertainment cater to almost anything that visitors could want.
Travel to Alicante is very accessible from airports across the UK including East Midlands, Glasgow, Southampton, and Gatwick. And with fares available from Economy Class through to Business Class, the short flight can be enjoyed with a range of luxurious travel options.
