Increased Tourism Seen in Southern Mediterranean Countries

It has been revealed that there has been a shift in overseas property focus, with British sunseekers actively looking for homes in countries such as Cyprus, Portugal and Greece and Sardinia. With these nations seeing increased interest, demand for travel to the countries is expected to rise as more British holidaymakers fly to their holiday homes.

The latest figures were revealed by Rightmove Overseas who said that Ibiza had noted a rise of 24.73 per cent in property searches. Meanwhile, Sardinia increased by 18.32 per cent and Portugal overtook Australia with an increase of 14.36 per cent taking it into fourth place. Whilst a number of non European countries including Canada, America and New Zealand fell, Greece and Cyprus also rose.

Head of overseas sales at Rightmove, Shameem Golamy, explained "Buyers looking for reduced priced properties in traditional lifestyle and holiday hotspots have been notable during March, with the Spanish province of Valencia seeing a massive surge in searches. The current climate means that if you are a buyer, you are spoilt for choice amongst the hundreds of properties with huge price reductions available, all over the Mediterranean."

Such noticeable changes in foreign property searches indicate that British travellers are once again falling for Europe and are looking to stay closer to the UK than before. Whilst the economy may have affected many people's budgets it has not dampened spirits for buying in troubled European countries. So with hotspots in the Eurozone accessible from a range of British airports including Glasgow, Manchester and Luton, demand for flights is expected to grow.
