Mexico Enjoying Boost in British Tourism
Travellers Heading to Mexico for Cheap and Exotic Holidays
As well as British travellers flocking to the latest European hotspot Turkey, it has also been revealed that those in search of a cheap and exotic holiday are heading to Mexico. With figures based upon the purchase of the national currency soaring, those who are feeling the pinch but still wanting to enjoy an exciting getaway are headed towards popular locations including Cancun and Mexico City.
New data from a survey conducted by American Express has revealed that sales for Mexico's peso have rocketed by 168 per cent in the first three months of 2011. Whilst the Turkish lire has also risen, proving that the east Mediterranean destination is still popular, currency demands for places such as Thailand, New Zealand and the UAE have fallen. The economic circumstances are still weighting heavy on many British holidaymakers, causing them to avoid previous hotspots deemed to be expensive. Instead, they are finding new exotic locations which offer an exciting getaway at a cheaper price.
America Express's director of global foreign exchange services, Terry Perrin, explained "Not only do Turkey and Mexico offer favourable exchange rates for the pound, they are also well-known all-inclusive destinations. The all-inclusive holiday trend has increased in recent years as holidaymakers, especially families, like to plan their spend ahead of time. Therefore, locations like Turkey and Mexico offer the best of both worlds for a lot of Britons." So with Mexico proving both cheap and popular, flights to Cancun and Mexico City are set to see soaring demand.
