Air Berlin Creating Berlin Travel Hub
Travel hub created
It has been revealed that Berlin is becoming increasingly used as a travel hub as airline Air Berlin offers 9,000 flights from the capital city per week. Having increased its services from 6,000 in summer 2010, the further increase in flights come ahead of 2012 scheduled opening of new Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt airport, which will offer a better travel experience than ever before.
With waves of passengers coming into the airport due to the huge number of connections that Air Berlin offers, the airline hold 17 per cent of the transit share on average. Meanwhile, with the addition of Oneworld partners including Iberia and American Airlines, Air Berlin can offer passengers an even wider range of travel options.
Chief executive of Air Berlin, Joachim Hunold, said "The Berlin hub is already running smoothly and we are further expanding it with the BER Airport in mind. By adding just a single new flight route, we are able to provide several new transit combinations. The hub concept enables us to offer new destinations more rapidly and to fly long-distance routes in a profitable manner." And with new flights including those to Verona and Olbia, in addition to increasing the number of services to Rome, St. Petersburg and Barcelona, British travellers needing connections may well look towards Berlin as the next big European travel hub.
