Canary Islands Are Top Hotspot for 2011
Canary Islands revealed as Hotspot
It has been revealed that Spain's Canary Islands have become very popular for holidays in 2011, with Lanzarote and Tenerife in particular noting high demand. The figures which were announced by Spanish airport authority AENA said that numbers were significantly up.
With Spain proving to be a traditional British retreat, in addition to current economic levels making it one of the cheapest getaways in Europe, individuals are flocking to the country. With the British summer also being particularly wet it is unsurprising that holidaymakers are seeking out nations with a great climate for their travels.
For the first six months of 2011 AENA said that visitor numbers to Tenerife were up by 25 per cent, whilst Fuerteventura noted a huge rise of 39 per cent. Meanwhile Gran Canaria tourist numbers rose by 20 per cent; a similar percentage to Lanzarote. And with British traveller numbers up by 13 per cent and Spain's overall tourist gain showing increased levels of 8 per cent, the nation's popularity is certainly rising this year.
With the recession causing people to reduce their expenditure, as well as political unrest in the Middle East and North Africa, many travellers who would normally have gone elsewhere are seeking holidays in Spain. And with the nation continuing to be cheap, and offer a great climate, there looks to be no end to its popularity.
