Istria Highlighted as Top Croatian Retreat
Istria made it of to the "Best of the world" list and to become a huge tourist scene next year
Croatia's Istria has been highlighted by National Geographic Traveller as one of the most sought after 2012 holiday destinations. The northern peninsula region of Croatia made it onto the Best of the World 2012 list, which highlights 20 locations set to be huge stars on the tourist scene next year.
Accessible via Pula airport by Croatia Airlines, Istria is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea. It is famed for its truffles, olive oils and Malvasia, and has been compared to Tuscany by the magazine. Charming towns are nestled between rolling green hills ready for visitors to explore, and with over 2,000 miles of bicycle paths the area is ideal for travellers who want to actively explore. Serene coastal coves are hidden amongst pine trees, offering the perfect escape for those want to be alone, whilst the town of Rovinj has the romantic Valentino bar, and vistas comparable to the Venetian islands.
Whilst places such as Oman, Iceland and London all made the top 20 list, Istria is set to be a very popular destination in 2012. With British holidaymakers wanting to explore somewhere a little different whilst being guaranteed a great trip away, Croatia is set to be a rising star as thousands are lured to its beautiful coastline.
