What to See in Brussels
Days worth of exploring in Brussels
The Grand Place is a point in the city that is a must. This is a large square in the centre of the city that is lined with gothic style buildings. The town hall is there along with gift shops and occasionally there are events held in the square. Visiting in August could see tourists there at the same time as the Tapis de Fleurs. This is literally a huge carpet of flowers in elaborate designs and is only in place for a few days. In the evening there is a Son et Lumiere show at around 10pm each day, which lights up the windows of the buildings in time to the music.
The Magritte Museum is another must, particularly for art-lovers. The museum closes on national holidays but is the ideal place to escape the bustle of the city and enjoy surrealist art. The Grand Sablon is a street that houses a number of chocolate shops. Belgium is a famous chocolate manufacturing centre and the opportunity to try it in its home country should not be passed up.
Less than half an hour outside Brussels is Waterloo, the site of the famous battle. There is a monument and museum that are ideal for history enthusiasts and will also give visitors the chance to see more of the Belgian countryside.
