Three Ideal Canary Island Walking Holidays
Breaks for adventure wanting travellers
With winter here it's the ideal time to head abroad for some much needed sun and warmth. The Canary Islands are extremely popular with many British individuals, but there is far more on offer than the typical resorts and days on the beach. For travellers wanting adventure, heading to Gran Canaria, La Gomera or La Palma will offer ideal walking retreats.
Whilst the Canary Islands may not be known for walking holidays, there are some great sights and walks to be had. Gran Canaria has plenty on offer, and with a wide variation of landscapes, there is something for every level. Gran Canaria has a mountainous backdrop and rugged coastal cliffs, and with volcano and pine forests walks, is a beautiful area to explore. Meanwhile, heading to Cloudy Rock (Roque Nublo) is worth the effort, and walkers will be rewarded with the islands famous rock formations.
La Gomera also offers plentiful walking options and a self guided walking tour allows for luggage to be transported from hotel to hotel whilst individuals can enjoy the scenery at their own pace. Green valleys, lush forests and black sandy beaches can be enjoyed, and the path from Igualero to Vallehermoso should not be missed.
Lastly, La Palma is a great walking destination and offers thick forests and black beaches to enjoy. Set against volcanoes, the landscape is stunning and offers the UNESCO Los Tilos Biosphere Reserve and the Caldera de Taburiente crater to explore for a walking holiday like no other.
