New African Culture Festival in Sanaa, Yemen
The Sanaa Africa celebration in Yemen began this year and is planned for many years to come.
The Sanaa Africa celebration is a cultural festival celebrating the entire continent. Taking place in the city destination of Sanaa, Yemen, the festival has been approved to be considered the official "Africa Day" celebration by the city of Joburg. At this three day event, the multiplicities of African culture are explored through storytelling, film, craft, dance, song and the visual arts.
Contemporary in emphasis, the festival is free to all participants and attendees and will take place at Zoo Lake. Among the events will be an exhibition showcasing the talents of artists and musicians who have been influenced by the cultures of Africa. Artists representing several African nations and cultures will be represented. The emphasis of the exhibition will be to explore the impact of cultural influences on the art of modern design.
Activities for children will be available including a play area themed around the destination of Africa. Arts and crafts, in which children have the opportunity to make traditional African toys, are among the many events planned for children. Shopping will also be available including the trendy crafts of the moyo shop at Zoo Lake.
One of the signature events of the festival is a fashion show designed to showcase both contemporary African fashions and those worn in traditional settings across the continent. Other events include poetry readings that provide visitors with an enriching experience of the spoken word and the Sanaa Africa Carnival, during which gigantic puppets form a procession across Zoo Lake Park.
