Waterford Festival a Summer Treat
Waterford's annual street arts festival is both a local and international hit.
July sees the annual Spraoi taking place in Waterford, Ireland. The street arts festival is a hit with both locals and travellers to the destination.
With its Spraoi parade, this lively, colourful event starts at the south-east corner of Peoples Park and makes its way clockwise around three sides of the park before making its way up Catherine Street, along The Mall and back down Lombard Street, William Street and finishing back where it started. With hundreds of costumed performers, dazzling floats, live music and special effects, the theme is decided annually in June and is sure to provide a treat for the senses whatever it may be.
Street theatre is a large part of the festivities, with many acts eager to show off their artistry and showmanship; their humour and natural talent. The shows are varied and undoubtedly contain something for everyone.
If music is your thing, then the numerous and varied artists on display will surely be a draw to the destination. With everything from traditional Irish music to pop; DJs to jazz; funk to country, this eclectic, wild mix of sounds is guaranteed to appeal to everyone in some way, shape or form.
Around 80,000 visitors are expected each year, making this one of the largest annual attractions in Waterford. The festival was conceived as an idea back in 1993 and has since grown to become a visual spectacular that overtakes historic Waterford for a full weekend every summer.
