Gothenburg-Helsinki flights strategically scheduled to meet connections with other European business/leisure destinationsSweden's City Airline has taken the first step in its plans for expansion, by opening a new route between Gothenburg and Helsinki. The Finnish capital will be the 13th city in Europe to which the company operates direct flights from its home airport at Gothenburg-Landvetter.
Flight times have been carefully coordinated to enable onward connections to other continental destinations. Managing Director, Jimmie Bergqvist, explained the strategy behind the timetable when he confirmed that the company was aiming to offer an early morning flight from Gothenburg-Landvetter. The departure time of 06.30 means that passengers will be in Helsinki at 09.00, local time, which is approximately two hours earlier than previously possible using other airlines.
Many passengers fly to Helsinki, before taking onward flights within Finland. The earlier arrival time means that passengers will have a better choice of connecting with these flights, while other passengers who are travelling out and returning the same day will have longer in Helsinki. The plans were made with tourists visiting the Swedish and Finnish cities in mind, as well as business travellers who seek fast, convenient transit across Northern Europe.
City Airline is a medium-sized regional airline with a fleet of seven modern Embraer jets, each with a capacity of around 40-50 passengers and three larger McDonnell Douglas aircraft, which cater for up to 125 passengers each. The airline has been a partner with SAS since 2006 and customers can collect SAS Eurobonus points on most of its routes.

Please note many airlines now have 'codeshare' marketing agreements whereby some of their flight numbers may be operated by a partner airline and flights which are classified as direct may still have en route stops.
