Transaero completes work on Rimini International Airport in order to prepare it to receive its Boeing 747 service.Russia's second largest passenger airline, Transaero Airlines, has become the first carrier to operate a Boeing 747 to Rimini International Airport, Italy. Transaero is the first airline to run such a long haul aircraft to the airport, which previously could not deal with an aircraft of that size. The decision to fly such aircraft to the airport comes in the wake of record levels of demand on the airline's Moscow to Rimini route both from economy and business class passengers.
In order to ready Rimini International Airport for the arrival of such a large aircraft, there was an extensive programme of works that needed to be completed. Taxi ways were widened, new equipment to service aircraft like the 747 was acquired and installed and a new parking area was built. Transaero Airlines feel that this move demonstrates a commitment to the development of their routes, as well as to airports in foreign territories.
Launched in November 1991, Transaero Airlines has quickly become the second largest passenger airline in Russia. Its fleet of 64 modern aircraft includes a variety of sizes which specifically cater to the diverse needs of the airline’s routes.
The German Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre ranks Transaero in the top ten of the world’s safest carriers amongst the world’s 60 largest airlines. Transaero operates over 120 routes both domestically and internationally, serving Europe, Asia, Africa and America. The airline was among the first to embrace new technology in Russia and was the first Russian carrier to offer e-ticketing and internet check in to its passengers.
