US Airways News & Information
US Airways earns praise in the annual Airline Quality Rating.US Airways has earned the top spot amongst the "big five hub and spoke carriers” in the annual Airline Quality Rating. Airlines are assessed according to 15 elements in four major areas, focussing on aspects of airline performance that are important to airline customers. The survey has been running since 1991, and was devised by Dr Brent Bowen from Purdue University's Department of Aviation Technology.
The Airline Quality Rating reaches a score based on the following factors: how many planes are on time; how many passengers are denied boarding; the amount of mishandled baggage and customer complaints. Data is drawn from monthly figures collected by the US Department of Transportation's monthly Air Travel Consumer Report.
US Airways has improved their punctuality, with 83% of their flights landing on time, compared with just under 81% in 2009. The number of customers who experienced mishandled baggage has also decreased by just over 15% to 2.56 per 1000. US Airways managed a slight improvement on its overall score, putting it ahead of all of its major rivals.
US Airways serves a number of major UK airports, including London Heathrow and London Gatwick. The Phoenix, Arizona based airline is part of the Star Alliance, and has code sharing agreements with many major airlines, including Air China, Spanair, and UK based airlines Virgin Atlantic Airways and BMI. These agreements allow US Airways’ customers to reach a greater range of destinations, providing travellers the means to visit a wide variety of cities for either business or pleasure.
