Romanian airline, Carpatair, is expanding its summer service for European travellers, by adding more flights on its direct route between Timişoara and Athens. Timişoara is the airline's home city and cultural commentators have described it as 'Romania's economic showcase,' because it leads the way for development across the rest of the country.

Carpatair is Eastern Europe's largest regional airline, providing services to 34 destinations across the continent. By offering more summer flights aimed at leisure travellers, it plans to introduce the charms of Romania to a much larger audience. Timişoara has been called the 'city of flowers,' due to the ring of parkland that surrounds it. Its residents come from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds, including strong Serbian, Hungarian and German communities. The city is home to the Festivalul Plai, which takes place every September and celebrates its multicultural nature, along with its vibrant music and artistic scene.

Timişoara is the central hub for the airline’s connections to destinations around Europe, including sophisticated and trendy Athens. Greece's largest city is already widely appreciated as a tourist destination, combining an ancient history with stylish modern social and cultural life. Flights between Athens and Timişoara operate on Thursdays and Saturdays during the summer season, which runs from July to September.
