These empires have come and gone, replaced in the meantime by our own political landscape, but the ground upon which these kingdoms were built remains the very same. We have taken a look back in time to see exactly where some of the greatest empires of a bygone time ruled, mapped onto a modern political world map and the extent of each in terms of population and area.
