Icelandair Plane

It has been revealed that Icelandic operator Icelandair are to offer three weekly flights which will offer direct travel between Glasgow and Reykjavik. Starting at the end of the summer season the new services will offer Scots the chance to explore this mysterious nation whether for leisure or business.

Initiating the flights from September 20th Icelandair will offer three direct flights per week from Glasgow, flying on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Offering fantastic opportunities to reach connecting flights to North America, the network additions will also allow individuals to explore Iceland and the attractions it has to offer. Iceland is home to some of the most unusual scenery in the entire world, with rolling tundra and mountainous regions and some particularly attractive landscapes. In addition, the country is well known for its steaming thermal baths and at the right time of the year offers the chance to see the iconic Northern Lights.

Speaking of the new services Glasgow Airport's commercial director, Francois Bourienne, said "Icelandair's re-introduction of direct flights to Reykjavik is great news for our customers, as it will significantly reduce the travel time both to Iceland and onwards to North America." In addition to actual trips to Iceland, many opportunities exist for travellers to stop over in Iceland, allowing individuals to enjoy the nation for a night or two before moving on. And with Gatwick's network adding these flights to its portfolio, travel to and through Iceland is set to become increasingly popular this autumn.
