Qatar Airways have announced that they will be adding a new route to Iran, landing at Shiraz Airport in the south of the country. Passengers will be able to travel to and from the city on one of the twice weekly flights from Doha. Qatar already flies to the Iranian cities of Tehran and Mashad, but this route will open up brand new opportunities for tourism and business in Southern Iran.
This expansion is in line with Qatar Airways’ wish to bring connections to parts of the world that are currently lacking. Akbar Al Baker, CEO, said that “Qatar Airways is pleased to be bringing its third route to Iran online in early June. Iran is still largely underserved by international carriers and Shiraz in particular presents Qatar Airways with an opportunity to target new business”.
Although often overlooked as a holiday destination, this city is a great place to experience Middle Eastern culture. The architecture and surroundings are beautiful, and many an hour can be whiled away exploring the exotic bazaars and markets. It is also very convenient for visiting nearby sights in neighbouring cities such as Persepolis and Naqsh- e-Rostam.
These flights create new and exciting options for holiday makers and visitors, and will provide a valuable link for businesses. This fascinating area will be far more accessible, allowing many more people to experience everything that it has to offer and to explore the city at their leisure.
