First held in 2005, the Festival de Casablanca is a celebration of Moroccan culture on a huge scale.
The annual event, usually held in July, offers a vast of array of entertainment including musical concerts which are held on four stages spread across the city and which showcase both local and international artists. The festival has previously included performances by popular musicians such as Craig David, Wyclef Jean, Nenah Cherry and Arrested Development.
A variety of performances and exhibitions take place in various locations across the city, and visitors are free to enjoy the many street performances which take place in Mohammed V Square. Theatrical events, film screenings and urban art exhibitions take place at venues such as the Mohammed VI Theatre, assorted cinemas, and even on the beach at Sidi Abderrahmane. The event generally takes place over a four day period and in previous years has attracted in excess of two million visitors to this destination.
The Festival de Casablanca is a free event, and this celebration of all things Moroccan provides entertainment for all ages and attracts both locals and visitors alike. Moroccans are a warm and welcoming people, and actively encourage visitors to participate alongside them during the festivities.
Traditionally, the festival opens with a large and colourful street show at the administrative centre of the city and then comes to a close with a spectacular fireworks display on Corniche Casablanca.
