The KNPC Trust, a charitable organisation, funded by the New Zealand Government and notable sponsors from both the corporate and private sectors, is preparing to reveal the details of the next Kerikeri International Piano Competition.
Located on the north-western arm of the Bay of Islands, Kerikeri is the fastest growing and most popular destination in the Northern District of North Island. It is a subtropical paradise with a rich and colourful cultural heritage. The Bay of Islands is a destination best seen from the air and several airlines operate though the Kerikeri airport, which, although small is being rapidly developed by its owners Far North Holdings Limited.
The arrivals area and airport facilities recently received a major overhaul and now include a purpose built conference room for the convenience of the growing number of business travellers who pass through its doors each tear.
Every two years, this bustling airport sees the arrival of many flights carrying contestants, teachers and attendees from all around the country who make this International Piano Competition a prestigious destination for young and talented solo artists. In the words of Michael Houstoun, the KNPC’s acclaimed patron and himself a soloist of world renown, “It is by far the best test for young pianists in the solo repertoire in this country.” Many previous participants have gone on to enjoy successful careers on the circuit of international solo concert performance, including such notables as John Chen, Stephen de Pledge, Dan Poynton, and Emma Sayers.
